Karan Johar on Hardik Pandya row: I apologise, spent sleepless nights wondering how I can undo this
Karan Johar finally opened on Hardik Pandya controversy, apologises as it was his platform where it happened.
Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan is well known for sparking controversies. But the latest one remains one of the show’s biggest controversies. It involved Indian cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul who were brutally criticised for their comments on the show. The controversy majorly surrounded around Hardik’s ‘misogynist’ and ‘sexist’ comments, due to which even BCCI suspended the players and sent them home from Australia, where they were playing for a series against the Aussies. KJo, however, had remained tight-lipped about the same until now. Finally, on Wednesday, the filmmaker broke his silence over this matter.
Johar recently attended the World Economic Forum held in Davos. During an interaction with ET Now at the event, he shared that he felt responsible for the whole fiasco and revealed that he even had sleepless nights as things have now gone ‘beyond his control’. "I have to say that I feel very responsible because it was my show, it was my platform. I invited them as guests and so the ramifications and repercussion of the show are my responsibility. I have had so many sleepless nights, wondering about how I can undo this damage, who is going to listen to me. It's now gone into a zone which is beyond my control."
He further apologised stating that it was his platform where it happened. "I'm not justifying the conversation that happened on the show. I think perhaps things were said that have crossed boundaries, and I apologise because it was my platform where it happened. I feel the boys have paid the price for it already,” he added.
However, in his defence, he also stated that the questions asked on the show are standard questions for all and he has no control over the answers.
"I have to say and I don't defend myself when I say this. I have to say that the questions that I asked the two boys are the questions I ask everyone including women. Deepika (Padukone) and Alia (Bhatt) were on the show, I asked them those questions. I have no control about the answers that come my way," he shared.
